Irreni Solutions VS 2016 Elections

Hi! Happy Sunday!

Irreni Solutions VS 2016 Elections

The elections are coming! The elections are coming!

Got Despair?

Are you asking yourself does it really matter?

The amount of repair, hope, change and political optimism is inversely proportional to the number of candidates running. Our elections have been distilled down to a popularity contest. We have no expectation that the next President of the United States will be able to overcome the corruption and therefore the President is like a homecoming queen: pretty without expectation.

A popularity contest. It has come down to that.

I would like to offer an Irreni solution to the 2016 election: indirectly use the Internet for populist voting.

Here is the formula:
  1. Google and Linkedin join forces to post resumes of political candidates.
  2. Citizens post resumes of anyone they'd like to see in office.
  3. Anyone that qualifies under the Constitution qualifies as a political candidate.
  4. Citizens campaign via the Internet for the best and brightest.
  5. Citizens bank votes for a political position choosing a ranked one, two and three candidate.
  6. Every day Google posts election results based upon the banked votes.
  7. A mock election is held in 2015.
  8. The entire system is reset back to zero and the election cycle begins for 2016.
  9. Anyone elected can refuse the office after election for any reason.
  10. Once an office is refused the next vote getter wins the election.
  11. Ties are broken by time, where the person who first got to the amount based upon the vote bank dates wins.
  12. In 2016 we write in the candidate who won.
As citizens we need to learn to rely on each other. In this exercise we rely on each other to "write in" votes.

The 2015 mock election is a trial balloon. The idea is for the idea to go viral. We just need a few million people to participate for the idea to go viral in 2016.

The number one benefit to this solution is to eliminate political parties. Political parties are the rotten core of corruption in this country. We now have the technology to cut out the middleman, the party. We do not need parties any more. Every candidate has a web site. We no longer need to vote party and planks, but just the people.

The second benefit to this is to eliminate campaigning. Believe it or not, George Washington never campaigned. Back in the day this country was founded campaigning was deemed unseemly. We replace candidate campaigning with citizen promotion.

This Irreni solution to the 2016 election will not end corruption, but it will take the edge off. The new process will introduce people to the concept of vote banking and daily tallies of winners. The Irreni voting solution promotes citizens getting more involved and taking more responsibility, people governing themselves. Power to the people!

Irreni Solutions VS Robert Reich

Hi! Zappy Friday!

This is an open letter to Robert Reich.

Robert Reich has been publishing 10 ways to make the economy work for the many and not the few. Kudos for trying!  Today was #7, bring back the Unions.

I posted an Irreni Solutions comment:

Unions pre-date the global economy and are obsolete in the world today. The idea of what Unions represent needs to radically change to still be relevant. So much so then why even call the idea Unions? Unless Unions can legally span country borders the same way 30 years of legislation have enabled cross-border businesses then Unions are just a pipe dream. The world has changed since 1950 people. What the world needs is Irreni World Scale.

The biggest threat to Democracy today is scale. What worked for 10 million people in 1789 doesn't work for 300 million people in 2015.

The solutions provided by Robert Reich give the impression that Reich is suffering from a guilty conscience. Perhaps he feels guilty about the repeal of Glass-Steigel during the Clinton years? Who knows? The reason I get the impression the perspective that Reich is coming from is a guilty conscience is that his solutions, such as bringing back the Unions, are dominated about reinstating what was and not meeting the challenges of today. Irreni World Scale has a different perspective: applying Silicon Valley solutions of scale to political scale.

Warren Buffet was on the Daily Show some time last year and said something that left me Irreni World Scale dumbfounded and pleased. I do not have the precise quote but Buffet said something to the effect that "535 people in Washington cannot govern 400 million people. That's just a ridiculous notion to start with."

Reich's "10 ways" defy the reality that since 1950 the population has more than doubled. Irreni Solutions brings a Silicon Valley perspective to politics: scale. In Silicon Valley we know that what works at one scale needs revised when things double or triple. Scale is the hidden problem that underlies all our fundamental problems of the day, including corruption.

The scale I am referring to is not just population scale but also technological scale. Google and Facebook now have more users than either China or India have people population. We are in a world race to see which company can acquire all the world's population as users. Every single one of us. Think about that for a second.

Irreni World Scale is to politics what science is to reality. Science uses the scientific method to model facts about reality that enable technologies to control the physical world. Irreni uses the scientific method to model wants about society to control the political world. Irreni is a process to scale politics.

Here is my open letter solution as a counter proposal to Unions, Tribes.

The Tribe solutions is as follows:
  1. Individuals can no longer be hired, taxed, or helped directly by the government,  only tribes.
  2. Tribes represent 30 people.
  3. Tribes include a percentage of non-productive folks that cannot work.
  4. Tribes are responsible financially for everyone in the tribe. Governments no longer work directly with those who cannot do for themselves.
  5. Tribes are monitored for efficacy and those tribes that fail to take care of their tribe members are reformulated.
In the Tribe model the job goes away. Think of each Tribe as a new company of thirty people. That company has by-laws, human resources and the full benefits of being like any other C corp. today. Tribes represent what are known as professional services today. When a professional service company is contracted today the contract is for a service, not a person. As long as the service is provided then the contract obligation is met.

Why the Tribe model? Back in the 1950s there was this concept of the "bread-winner". What a weird word, bread-winner, when in fact the father was the wage earner. Anyway, the idea was that a company assumed that the wage being paid was to support a family, not just the father doing the work. This bread-winner notion has fallen away. The Tribe reinstates this bread-winner notion but at a slightly larger scale of 30 people. Further more the Tribe is self-selected whereas a family is not, excepting that tribes must be formulated to a percentage of non-productive members. Regulations exist regarding the formulation of a Tribe in that unproductive elderly, children, ex-cons, handicapped and those of limited opportunity must make up a percentage of the tribe. Fairness then is not built into wages but Tribe formulation. All Tribes must bear the burden financially of the non-productive. Think of this as quick-sort, divide and conquer. Divide the financial responsibility of the unproductive.

The Tribe model addresses the elderly productivity problem. Today the elderly are either retired or they work full-time. The Tribe model is services based only. This means any elderly that can work just ten hours-per-week can still contribute to the Tribe. The Tribe has incentive to train the elderly whereas today there is no incentive to take on the risk and the healthcare costs of the elderly by paying them a wage.

Will the Tribe model work? Why 30 people? Why not 100? The answer to these questions is this: Irreni defines a process for answering these questions and not for providing the answers. To answer the Tribe questions Irreni demands that massive experiments be run in parallel using the scientific method. Perhaps some Tribes have 30 people, others 100. Experiments are run for long periods of time,  on the order of 100 years, and eventually new models of efficacy prevail from the scientific method being applied to social experiments.

Reich's notion of 10 ways to improve the economy by returning to what was once working does not address the fundamental reasons why things in the past were changed these last 30 years to begin with: corruption. However, corruption itself is not the most fundamental problem with why things are failing. The most fundamental problem is scale; scale of population and scale of technological advancement. What works at 100 million in 1950 doesn't work at 300 million in 2015. What works prior to the Internet doesn't work after the Internet. We are now in the Information Age. Soon either Google or Facebook will have 7 billion users, far more than any nation will boast.

Irreni World Scale meets the scale challenge head on by applying the scientific method to the wants of 7 billion people for modeling society to control the political world the same way science treats facts for modeling technology to control the physical world.

The Babymaker: Life, The Universe and Everything

Hi! Happy Wednesday!

What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Is there life after death?

Stay tuned and I will answer all of these questions and more in one simply blog post. Oy vey! Yeah baby, yeah!

A good writer is compelling and interesting. To date my blog has really been about a brain dump of ideas more than compelling writing.

In this blog post I will water the roses of interest a little harder. What? How does one water "harder" and why would that make for better roses? lol. Oh well, maybe next time. Onward!

What is the meaning of life? To answer that let us first examine what is the purpose of philosophy. Philosophy is to life what science is to life for most of human history. It answers questions.

I am a philosopher. It took me awhile to figure out what that meant. When I first thought of myself as a philosopher I thought it meant filling the gaps of science. I also thought it meant coming up with witty metaphors to help lay people relate to complicated issues that would escape regular folk otherwise.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.
― Albert Einstein

Imagine yourself living before the advent of the printing press. The scientific process has yet to come to the fore. What is the truth the best describes reality? The truth for you will mostly entail one-part fact and 99 parts reason. Philosophy connected the dots between facts. Philosophy developed a sophistry that while nowhere near as sophisticated as quantum mechanics it was still more intricate then most people would dare to tread.

Philosophy and religion have suffered the same fate: obsolescence by way of the scientific process. To whit, you probably use about as much philosophy in your day-to-day living as you do religion, that is to say none at all.

So if philosophy is obsolete then does that mean the meaning of life is obsolete? ha!

No, philosophy is not dead. Like religion then philosophy needs to be re-defined. Philosophy is no longer in the truth business. What business is philosophy in then? Philosophy is in the guessing business.
“The more you know, the more you know you don't know.”
― Aristotle
Kobayashi Maru: a no-win scenario test of character in the face of no known options.

The correct answer to the Kobayashi Maru, of course, is to conduct oneself with the most desirable character for recorded posterity. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around then all options are meaningless anyway. The only meaning is character in the Kobayashi Maru.

Philosophy in many respects is every bit as relevant as it was yesterday, just with a different purpose. The more we know then the more we don't know. What if you are in a situation faced with the unknown? What then? This is where philosophy kicks in. Philosophy provides the best guess possible. But in no way is philosophy to be considered truth but just the best guess running.

Also, philosophy is still in the business of providing metaphors. The average person still needs to understand complicated topics like nuclear power. Good philosophers will help them along on this path. Religion, then, can still have a purpose in the knowledge framework. Religion can never compete with philosophy's role in guessing in the face of the unknown because religion is about contextualizing by oversimplifying things for people who otherwise cannot understand. Oversimplifying is not compatible with making the best guessing decisions in the face of the unknown.

And finally we arrive. Now we are ready to begin our work understanding the meaning of life.

The great philosophical debates about the universe are between the theist and the atheist. Does god exist? Is there life after death?

I highly recommend watching the above video. The religious and non-religious alike are well represented in a philosophical debate about life after death.

It was the above video that motivated to write this blog post. About one-third of the way into the debate Sam Harris discusses a cutting edge philosophical concept that this universe is just a computer simulation. One of the Rabbi's responds by saying that in this view then even an ocean wave can be resurrected and there is nothing special about life's place in the universe, nothing special about consciousness.

The Rabbi, much to his chagrin if he knew, is correct.

Let us call this the babymaker.

In philosophy today the juxtaposition between theist and atheist, the crux, the fulcrum, and the nexxus of the philosophical difference  is the watchmaker debate. If you look into the depths of life and see a watchmaker then a supernatural god is in order. If you do not see a watchmaker then the natural is sufficient. The watchmaker is a personal decision for most people and not one of reasoned argument.

But there is a third option that makes more sense than either: the babymaker.

First, please recognize we are not talking truth here but we are talking guessing. The truth of the matter is we do not have a scientific process for proving anything supernatural, including god. We don't know anything about the supernatural.

I don't know is the only truth answer to the question, "Is there a god?" Or, rather, I don't know is our only shared truth answer. As the rabbis in the video above point out people can have personal truth and personal revelations about the truth of god. But that personal truth cannot be shared because it cannot be independently verifiable. You may have a near-death experience but that truth is only good for you. In God We Trust must go because we collectively don't know. Science is the only arbiter of our collective truth.

So why concern oneself with philosophy at all then?
Because what we don't know encompasses more than what we do know.
That means every day we need to make decisions in the face of the unknown so we need to guess. Philosophy helps us with the best guess possible.

For this argument let us suppose you are a scientist asking for money to research if god or the supernatural exists. Should you fund such an unknown and if so where do you begin to look?

Well, dear reader, one would begin by looking for the babymaker, not the watchmaker.

Below is a chain of philosophical thought that starts with an assumption, applies some universal principles and them moves to a conclusion, the babymaker.

  1. Assume humans can only make guesses about things that humans can reason about. The supernatural that defies human reasoning may very well exist but would be a pointless experiment to run.  You literally wouldn't know where to begin.
  2. The copy principle. The universe is built upon a principle of building blocks and copying. From atoms to DNA to quantam phenomena everything exists in multiple copies. There is no such thing as a distinct particle that is unique. Any configuration of natural atoms, particles and phenomena can occur again.
  3. The principle of pattern replication applies: what occurs once can occur again and patterns observed are the most reasonable as starting models for addressing the unknown.
  4. Parents have babies and do not understand the underlying process.
  5. The universe creator is a parent and something that does not understand how the universe is created but just possesses the ability to do so.
  6. The universe creator is running an experiment to understand why and how the process of universe creation works.
  7. The information capacity of the computer monitoring this universe must be greater than all of the information in this universe. In other words, the computer gathering the data on this universe is itself a universe.
  8. Most of the universe information can be compressed. Suns and galaxies all exhibit common entropy patterns that can be information compressed. This explains why so much of the universe is just stars. The total entropy is large but can be compressed. Most of our universe information can be compressed in the experiment observing computer leaving lots of room for expanding upon information about life of entropy differences.
  9. The meaning of life is to transcend what the creator knows and help advance the understanding of the technology of universe creation itself.
  10. We are aware of the experiment. Consciousness is a feedback loop between the experiment universe and the experiment running universe and therefore a paradox.  What is being recorded is itself the recording device.
  11. Everything is being recorded and therefore everything, including ocean waves can be "resurrected". More aptly put, everything can be played back.
  12. The experiment has a beginning and ending so as to provide a final evaluation.
I cannot state this emphatically enough. The above babymaker model is not truth, but a guess. It is a guess based fundamentally on the replication principle that patterns of known human understanding are the best starting places for investigating the unknown. To whit, the god model is not. The omnipotent, the omniscient and the all powerful is not a pattern heretofore observed in nature. The parent model is. Therefore the best starting point and the best guess for investigating the unknown supernatural is the parent model, not the god model. If someone needs a personal assurance for inspiration about our place in the universe then this model is the best to date.

Whoever created this universe does not understand what they created. The universe creators are running an experiment and possibly more to transcend. We are part of that transcending process.

This guess is the best guess to date. As science ever edges forward then like all other guesses the babymaker model of no facts will be refined and replaced as the facts come in.

So who are the parents of our universe parents? The answer is we don't know. But unlike the question of our universe parents, we fundamentally don't care. So there are unknowns and then there are unknowns. The first set of unknowns are the ones we may possibly be challenged with making a decision in the face of. The second set of unknowns will never manifest in our universe and so we don't care. We don't care about the supernatural we can't understand.

The above is really just a mental exercise and nothing more.  The above illustrates the purpose and the process of modern day philosophy. Modern day philosophy provides us with the best guess going when faced with the impossible and  the unknown. In the face of the impossible, in the face of a Kobayashi Maru, philosophy recommends a guess to remain true to your character on the off chance others may learn of your endeavors.

As an atheist what I believe about the origins of the universe is "I don't know".

As an atheist what I guess about the origins of the universe is the babymaker.

Tomorrowland Movie Review: Irreni Worthy

Hi! Happy Sunday!

Tomorrowland Movie Review: Irreni Worthy

Tomorrowland is an Irreni worthy movie because fundamentally Tomorrwland is optimistic and fun. Woot!

Tomorrowland begins with a simple moral lesson of optimism and then ends with the same moral lesson.  A young women is recruited to save the world. She does so by applying the simple optimistic moral stated in the beginning. In Tomorrowland an engineer played by George Clooney figures out how to predict, or monitor, the future using tachyons of Star Trek fame. A despair future is predicted by the tachyon monitor where the world will end in a just a few months.

The moral to the story and the wolf parable above is that life is a feedback loop. The movie goes one step further and promotes optimism when there is only a 1% chance of survival. Would you be that much of an optimist?

The young girl saves the day by rightly assessing that the tachyon monitor itself represents a negative feedback loop that needs to be destroyed, bad wolf defeated.

The movie's other themes and morals mirror those of other popular science fiction movies such as Avatar and Interstellar. For example, global climate change is looming and along with it the very real possibility of worldwide calamity coupled with very slim chances of humans being able to stop climate change disasters.  Tomorrowland is Irreni worthy because the glass being half empty metaphor gets an update to the glass being 1% full. Even if the glass is only 1% full then one still needs to be an optimist. Climate disasters could put us in such a predicament. NASA has predicted that California may very well see a 50 year draught. Are we optimism ready?

Below is a list of some of the other sci-fi speculative morals and themes:
  1. Robots are friendly. The movie Terminator and many sci-fi movies posit that with the singularity of computer consciousness then computers will do the right thing and wipe out its competing species, humans. Of course a movie where computers fall in love with humans and take care of them and we all live happily ever after would make for a boring movie
  2. Adults become cynical. George Clooney's character as well as the protagonists Father are both portrayed as having lost their optimism of youth and became full of despair. Flash backwards in the movie and George Clooney was recruited as a child to Tomorrowland as a child prodigy. Back then in the 1960s he was young and optimistic. Flash forward and he is cynical and pessimistic. Actually I think that is the wrong message. I'm George Clooney's age and still every bit the optimist. The difference is I'm no longer naive about what to be optimistic about. I think the movie is wrong on this count.
  3. Robots can be good or bad. Robots are only as good as their software. This is a healthy moral perspective to have as opposed to robots are all good or all bad.
  4. Evil and good are problematic labels. Hugh Laurie of House fame does a great job playing a good bad guy. His character is likeable and not overly arrogant or mentally crazy. If it were not for the goon robot squad out killing other robots his character would not seem evil at all. Hugh's character is mostly guilty of believing the future predicted by the monitor is an unalterable future. He dismantles Tomorrowland and sits back to await Earth's fate. The good wolf and bad wolf exists in us all where who we become is what we feed. Evil and good are not binary labels that people are either or.
  5. Xenophobia. AI and robots are nothing to be afraid of just because they are different.
  6. Dreamers dream. Don't let the haters get you down. Irreni World Scale is such a dream. Great message.
  7. Climate change. We need to be stewards of the Earth.
All of these themes are common to speculative science fiction and worthy of promoting. Promoting them all in one movie is a little much I think. There is just not enough time in two hours to really do them justice. The film did a good job of showing the two wolves though:
  • Father: light young, dark older.
  • Frank: light young, dark older.
  • Computers: software dependent. They will be what we program them to be.
  • Life is a feedback loop: tachyon monitor shows a negative future that needs to be defeated. This is especially effective in the face of the world's major religions predicting the end times are nigh. Screw that.
  • Explicitly stated in the beginning and resolves the dilemma in the end.
My final strong recommendation for watching this movie is its strong anti-theism theme. Modern anti-theists promote right thinking instead of being anti-religion and this movie is a Wonderful(tm) example of anti-theism: it never mentions religion.

I become an atheist when I read the first chapter of the bible. I did not become an anti-theist until I read the book of Revelations. Nothing fails like prayer and nothing works like defeatism. A defeatist will aways be right because in the words of Edmund Burke, "The only thing required for defeat is for good people to do nothing." There are days on end of discusion one can have when it comes to the vile wickedness of Christianity and religion in general. But the ultimate evil committed by the bible is the message in Revelations. If there were a good god and there were a revelation to be made then it would this: live until the end of time and then figure out a way to live beyond time. That's the only revelation a "good" god would give. An evil god would reveal that the end times are nigh and defeatism is destiny,  a dystopia for which there is no possibility of avoiding.

There are a million reasons the Bible is evil but you only need one for a child to disqualify a book claiming perfection,  claiming to be the dogmatic perfect word of a good creator. A good god would never promote defeatism and a good god would never write the book of Revelations.

The optimistic message of this movie does not square with end of times, the end of Earth. It is our future to outlive the Earth as a species if we choose and then work towards that goal . Outliving Earth is something no religion teaches and something Tomorrowland implies. We can escape our doomed Earth fate if we only try.

My biggest criticism of Tomorrowland is acceptable: the movie offers no concrete solutions other than to recommend we be optimistic. But then again the world at large is stuck on today's utterly broken political governments.  No one is  offering solutions so that is really no fault of Tomorrowland. Not unless the writers had read Irreni World Scale and deliberately ignored it. :-)

Irreni Solutions VS The Case of Mistaken Identity

Hi! Happy Sunday!

I was standing in line at Starbucks and I heard a political conversation that ended with, "Democrats are the only one to have used the atomic bomb."

The Case of Mistaken Identity is rampant in America today. Take for example the case of Republican versus Democrat. Republicans and Democrats shifted seats on the bus back when the Civil Rights Act was passed. The Southern Strategy ultimately meant that the solidly Democratic South shifted Republican. Where would the Republicans be today without their new bigoted base? Then again there was the sexual revolution, the free-speech movement the protesting of the Vietnam war. The Democratic party did not embrace these future ideas of the Democrats of today. Mayor Daily in 1968 called out the Chicago Police who beat students within inches of their lives at the Democratic Convention. To whit, what it means to be a Democrat or Republican has changed many times over the last hundred years. Yet we use these political labels as if what they mean today is what they meant 100 years ago? What gives?

In the case of the atomic bomb the case of mistaken identity is even more ridiculous. Harry Truman alone is solely responsible for that decision. Truman did not ask permission from party or Congress. Harry Truman alone is responsible.

So what's going on? Why do we fall into this trap of mistaken identity? Democrats today come in all stripes and flavors, as do Republicans. There are Christian Democrats and there are Atheist Republicans. Gun owners of America are split mostly 50/50 between Democrats and Republicans and yet we pretend as if only one party is pro-gun.

Irreni Solutions recognizes a fundamental feature of human beings. That fundamental feature is that we are all pattern matching machines coupled with evolution still pegged to a limited scale. Humans can only pattern match on the order of one-hundred people. Once the numbers are larger then we will all accept stereo-types that are grossly simplistic, even as I overheard today with attributing all Democrats the decision to use the A-Bomb.

Irreni Solutions addresses this fundamental feature of human beings by focusing on finding your tribe. Not just any tribe, mind you, but a tribe of maximal moral diversity. Focusing on one's tribe with six-degrees of voting, vote for who you know, means a defocusing on national and worldwide caricatures such as Democrat, Republican and Harry Truman.

Humans are pattern matching machines that for all of human existence have only had to deal with a scale on the order of hundreds. This is why our cases of mistaken identity are so gross and ridiculous. We do not do nuance very well. The way to scale human social groups is to focus locally with shared objectives.

Here is a warning: as long as we continue to embrace grossly inadequate cases of mistaken identity then political progress will be nigh impossible when that political progress is built on wrong identities.

Irreni Solutions VS The Bubble Bath

Hi! Happy Sunday!

Irreni Solutions vs. The Bubble Bath

Science is like a bubble bath. When you are feeling alone and yet wanting something wet, effervescence and gentle on your skin then draw a nice warm bath. Or science project. Muh ha ha!

Should we genetically test babies at birth? This will provide much needed medical information throughout a person's entire life?

Bubble baths and genetic testing. That's like two different topics. I'm taking a hint from modern television to have two story lines going.  Did you know that two different story lines is now a staple of television show? Back in the old days of television a television show was a vignette. A vignette is a self-encapsulated show that can be watch independently. This makes perfect sense with broadcast television where viewers may miss episodes week-to-week. Then reruns were invented and television evolved. Dual story arcs took hold and viewers took to them. Then Joss Whedon comes along with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and invokes season long story arcs and multiple story arcs. This was then followed by Lost, Hereos and others and now the advent of binge watching on Netflix. Woot! Bubble baths and genetic testing at birth. For this blog I will just stick with two story arcs. Mmmm.

Where was I? Oh yeah, science is like a bubble bath. People have a mental image of science that is linear. The image goes something a chain linked together of scientific discoveries. In science we learn 'A'. After we learn 'A' then we go onto to learn 'B'. And so on. The problem with this model is that there are gaps in the chain, missing links. But chains are so cold, hard and violent. Let's do bubble baths. Anyone who has taken a bubble bath knows there can exist air or gaps between the bubbles, not just in the bubbles. And that is okay, your bubble bath is still good. Science is like that. We have gaps between in the chain of events and that's okay. What science does provide we appreciate.

Climate change is like a bubble bath, but perhaps we are not enjoying it so much. I believe this is because the gap of events is so large. I am not sympathetic to the climate change deniers who are scientists. I am sympathetic to the average people who are confused. Why? Because the state of meteorology science today is that we cannot reliably predict the weather more than just a one week forecast. We can only predict hurricanes after they begin to form. We cannot predict tornadoes at all. And yet climatologists are predicting the weather ten, twenty and one-hundred years out? What's going on here?

What's going on with climate science is that modeling weather is a bubble bath.  There just happens to be very large bubbles missing between. Our scientific models for global warming are somewhat accurate. Our five-day weather forecasts are somewhat accurate. Everything in between is a big mess of unknowns. And so I'm sympathetic to the folks confused by climate change deniers. Just because science doesn't have all the pieces to a puzzle doesn't mean that the puzzle pieces we have aren't useful.

Medicine is also very much a science where there are pockets, or bubbles, where things are understood and yet the entire chain of events has enormous gaps.

Science is like a bubble bath not just because there are gaps between bubbles. Science is like a bubble bath because a 3D bubble is a better metaphor than a straight line of events. Take for example the temperature. When we give a temperature we give a single number. Right now it is 65F in Menlo Park. There are two dimension of problem with this though. One dimension is the accuracy of the instrument of measurement and the other is the uniformity of temperature in space. Neither dimension is accurately described by 65F.

Fuzzy logic is a branch of mathematics that attempts to deal with error. If my thermometer is only +/- 0.1 degrees then all formulas in Fuzzy Logic will use this +/- 0.1F in the calculations. Further, if the thermometer in Menlo Park is specific to a very small region of space and the temperature in Menlo Park varies +/- 3F then this number is also input into Fuzzy logic equations. The accuracy of measurement can be modeled as a chain of bubbles. Imagine three bubbles, A,B, and C, are adjacent in line where B connects A to C. Imagining science as linear is akin to only focusing on the exact line where A, B, and C actually touch. This is analogous to stating a measurement is 65F for Menlo Park. But that is not reality. The reality is that there is a confidence factor, or accuracy, of all measurements.

Science is like a bubble bath because a.) there are unknowns in or gaps between bubbles and b.) accuracy or confidence can vary in multiple dimensions or a bubble rather than a straight line of events.

All of which brings me to the question: should we be genetically testing babies at birth for long term health benefits?

No. And the reason is accuracy or confidence. DNA testing is used to verify paternity with some 99% accuracy. This is misleading. People may draw that wrong conclusion that because this bubble of genetic testing is 99% accurate then so are all other bubbles. However, that is not the case. We may be able to reliably sequence a person's genome for heath care some day, just not today.

Climate change and genetic engineering share a common theme in scientific understanding. There are gaps, huge gaps, in events and what is known. Accuracy and confidence are low. This doesn't mean that the models we do have should be ignored.  It just means we need to include in our conversations the meaning of what is known with the corresponding confidence and also what is known relative to the gaps of unknown.

Climatologists cannot predict the weather tomorrow based upon climatology models. That is not a flaw in science, just a gap between events of what science can model. Genetic testing at birth today cannot be used for health care because the sequencing, measuring, of the DNA is highly inaccurate even though genetic DNA tests for family are 99% accurate.

Science is like a bubble bath. There are entire gaps as well as measurement gaps between the bubbles of science that exist.

Irrenis Solutions VS Climate Change

Hi! Happy Saturday!

Doing some blogging while I am waiting on my laundry.

It is hard to imagine a problem greater than climate change. Addressing the problems of climate change is going to require world cooperation, world scale.

Where there is a will there is a way, or so the saying goes.

The will of a people to solve a problem must exist prior to implementing any solution. We lack that will today.

For example, are we willing to give up eating meat? You can Google the web for climate change and vegetarian diet to learn the dramatic impact going vegetarian will have on climate change. Yet we lack the will to go vegetarian. Our  collective, world will then is a bigger problem than climate change. If there is no collective, world will then there is no world change. Suffice it to say then as a people we will go extinct before we go vegetarian.

Is there any hope of change?

Let's first make it clear where there is no hope for change; our current collective governments and religion.

Religion is far more concerned with being self-righteous than providing solutions and hence can be dismissed outright as a source of will. In fact, religion is anti-will because all of the major religions that account for most of the billions on this Earth embrace an end times. Billions of people subscribe to a notion that the end times are nigh. Religion will provide no will for solving climate change and on the contrary provide resistance as people subscribe to prophecy the end is near.

Our current collective governments are too petty to implement a world will. Our collective governments suffer from a "you first", first-grade playground attitude when it comes to carbon emissions and common efforts. Global cooperation is required for sustained climate management and will not come from our collective current governments worldwide, ever.

That covers where there is no hope.

Is there any hope for change?

Yes. Imagine for a second that Irreni is well underway. This means everyone on the planet has a Device of Life (DOL). One of the DOL's primary purposes is the Vote Bank. The vote bank is where we all publicly vote on issues. Another of the DOL's primary purposes is the Real-time Project Pool (RTPP). The RTPP subplants bureaucracies and replaces them with projects. As humans worldwide we can vote our collective will. Worldwide we could vote for a worldwide project to become vegetarian to manage climate change. These projects are only tangentially supported by the government. The real force beyond the RTPP is us, we the people, having a worldwide conversation. We start sharing experiences and methods for switching to vegetarian. This is the Internet on steroids.

In the above example our collective will is made apparent for all to see and act on. The government which governs best governs least because the people govern themselves. We start governing ourselves with less-and-less government dependence en masse as the DOL becomes the super-project highway for worldwide collaboration between peoples, one-at-time.

Is there any hope for change?

Yes. Let us continue to imagine that Irreni is even further underway and there now exists another one of twenty, Irreni big fancy pants ideas: the Virtual Environment Reality You (VERY). The VERY is a worldwide bazaar and a worldwide commons where anyone can meet-and-greet anyone else in the world. Some combination of streaming-video and avatars are used to provide 7 billion people a virtual space where we can all teleport instantly to any place imaginable. In this measure we can now literally become a world community.

Are you ready for hope and change?

Yeah, that was Obama's campaign slogan. Obama was appealing to a very real instinct we all feel in our bones today; we need serious change to have any hope. We cannot get ahead by staying even. Technology has rapidly advanced on so many fronts last century and yet our politics and social environs are still predominantly pre-19th century.

Radical change is required if we want to meet worldwide problems such as climate change. But how? Radical change in the past meant revolution and yet revolution like what is happening in the Middle-East requires a scorched Earth before things can be built anew. Can the world really afford a scorched Earth revolution in the United States? Absolutely not.

What the world needs for hope and change is Irreni: innovation replaces revolution, engineering not ideology. Innovation requires a multitude of experiments running in parallel where the best ones win. That is not revolution, but gradual experience coupled with science. We need to have global conversations with each other, one-on-one about our hopes and dreams for the futures and then one-on-one support projects that bring to fruition those dreams, such as being good stewards of planet Earth for ourselves and our children. This is not ideology but shared interests.

Is there any hope for change? Yes, but not by standing still with today's political, religious and social structures. We need to radically reposition a world with worldwide coordination that is unprecedented in both necessity and capability.

Irreni Solutions VS Democracy

Hi! h A p P y  S u N d A y ! !

Democracy is dead.

Now what?

What comes after Democracy?

Irreni World Scale does, of course. But why? Should you be afraid? Boo! Should you be afraid of Irreni World Scale is some kind of World Domination plan with Mr. Wonderful laughing maniacally in the middle? Muh ha ha! More importantly when should you be afraid some new form of government or society is masked world domination?

:-)

First of all, why is Democracy dead? Democracy is dead because bureaucracy is dead. Bureaucracy is dead because bureaucracy relies on inefficiency to function.
When you have an efficient government, you have a dictatorship.
--Harry S Truman

In an information age era where a new technology like the iPhone can disrupt society virtually overnight then  politics needs to move overnight with it. Bureaucracies are inefficient because of individual titles, power and empire within empire building. In a bureaucracy you do not get rewarded for being efficient. In a bureaucracy being efficient means you get your budget slashed, your headcount cut, your power diminishes and your empire within an empire destroyed.

Democracy is dead because bureaucracy cannot keep up with the pace of technological advancement.
The pace of technological advancement is such that we have guided missiles and misguided men.
-Dr. Martin Luther King, 1963
Okay, so I've just identified and justified one distinction of doing away with bureaucracies for After Democracy.  However, argument for all of the principle changes are in some respects what this blog is all about so without further adieu then I'll just put forth the other After Democracy principles as I believe them to be:
  1. Self-governing. "The government that governs best governs least because the people govern themselves." -Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson left the thought "because the people govern themselves"  hanging for us. That would be  you-and-me, this generation, was left to fill in the blanks of what self-governing means.
  2. Everyone education. I refrained from the use of "public education" here because of the political meaning in today's America. The mission of everyone education and public education remains the same: education for all.
  3. Everyone domain. There should exist a domain of property owned by everyone on the Earth, public domain if you will. Everyone information is stored in the everyone domain. The entirety of human knowledge is the legacy of every human yet to be born. The Irreni solution to the everyone domain is the Data Center on the Moon to be managed by the Terran Sea Otter Academy.
  4. Political pace matches technical pace. As technology changes the societal landscape the political processes adapt accordingly in real time.
  5. Everyone quality of life. Quality of life is the objective of the human species everywhere and not a human race.
  6. Moral diversity. Quality of life means diversity of morality. People are genetically wired with different emotional spaces and capabilities. No more once size fits all such as defining marriage as one woman and one man.
Irreni World Scale meets the criterion above for a modern social structure that promotes people governing themselves.

  1. Self-governing. Find your tribe is a self-governing structure. People form cells or groups of ten-to-thirty people of the most moral diversity possible. Tribes of tribes form at any scale of people required to do a job.
  2. Self-governing. Six-degrees of voting. Vote for who you know only. Voting in the modern era is upended. Everyone is given a device of life (DOL) that includes a vote bank. The vote bank is a place to deposit votes, not cast them. Votes are on deposit always the same as money is always on deposit in you bank. Votes are made public such that the network of voting is visible to all. Everyone only votes for who they know. People who have voters voting for them are then considered voting blocks where their vote represents themselves and then again all the voters voting for them. Thus ends political parties.
  3. Everyone information and domain via  The Data Center on the Moon (DCOTM) and the Terran Sea Otter Academy (TSOA). The moon is declared everyone property, owned by all. All information on the moon is everyone information. The TSOA is responsible for curating all the everyone data and everyone information stored on the moon. All future generations of people inherit an information legacy. Fantastic!
  4. Political pace via the Real Time Project Pool. Say goodbye to corporations and bureaucracies and hello to projects. Projects will need large organizations. The key difference is that projects end and the large groups are made up of tribes of tribes and not political appointees or individual titles. Innovation of social adaption of new technology happens on a massive scale of experiments carried out slowly over 100 years. One million innovated social experiments over 100 years yields a total number of successful innovations that cannot be matched today. Innovate at a slow pace and full speed ahead by massive amounts of experiments over a long time.
  5. Everyone quality of life is encapsulated in the Sexy Quality of Life, OI and COx principles of Irreni. The Sexy Quality of life states that we all are obligated to promote the kind of society we want to live in.  The Opportunity Importance (OI) principle affords everyone the right to equal importance of quality of life. The COx principle states that life is for the living and not the dead or the voices of the past, voices of gods, the supernatural or space aliens. Human life is by humans first and only.
  6. Moral diversity is promoted via the Information Rule. The Information Rule replaces the Golden Rule. We no longer treat people as we wish to be treated, moral homogeneity, but instead treat people as they are, moral heterogeneity.

Fantastic! The above is a framework upon which to build the future. Irreni means [I]nnovation [r]eplaces [r]evolution, [e]ngineering [n]ot [i]deology.  Irreni solutions represent an ever changing, fast paced political landscape that can keep up with the times.

Irreni Solutions VS Islam's Thin Skin

Hi! Happy Monday!

Headline news today is a two men were shot dead outside the Muhammad Art Exhibit & Contest where a prize of $10,000 was offered for the best cartoon of Muhammed.

I'd like to offer an Irreni World Scale view on cartoon killing; that of being thin skinned.

Irreni promotes moral diversity as a method of expanding your free will. Finding your tribe with the maximum moral diversity within your tribe means that people you trust can make moral decisions on your behalf that you otherwise cannot: thus expanding your free will range.

Expanding your free will range does more than provide moral opportunity, however. Embracing moral diversity necessarily increases your tolerance of others and decreases emotional manipulation. We  call this emotional manipulation defense having a thick skin.

When I was a child I cried. I cried at the drop of the hat. My mother would go out of her way to make me cry. Abuse is an understatement considering who I was. Everyone thought that my exceptional sensitivity meant I was really thin skinned. The nice thing about nature is nature doesn't pay attention to what people think. The reality is that I was born with an exceptional sense of empathy. I feel empathy for everyone, including the worst of the worst. On the flip side I was born with self-esteem. Tiffany once said that there is no such thing as bad taste, just taste and no taste. For me there is no such thing as low self-esteem, just self-esteem and no self-esteem.

"Worthless people's opinions are worthless."
-Piers Anthony, Xanth

"I respect those peoples' opinions whose opinions I respect."
-Gordon Dickerson, Dorsai

I'm a very lucky person. I was born with boundless empathy coupled with thick skin, self-esteem. Were it otherwise I'd be crazy. To say I have thick skin, however, implies that there is some depth one can pierce to upset me. Trust me, my mother tried during my most vulnerable years and yet not once did I ever take anything she said personally. Not ever. Self-esteem. I cannot be offended.

What does this have to do with Islam and thin skin?

As humans we psych people out. That is to say we manipulate each other by playing on their emotions. Sometimes we refer to this manipulation as pushing someones buttons. People who have more ways of being manipulated are said to have more buttons. People who are thin skinned not only have more buttons but also their buttons can be pressed unknowingly. Thin skinned people are easily offended and easily manipulated; easily controlled.

The problem with Islam thin skin is that it translates into paper-thin skin. The Islamic people are the easiest to emotionally manipulate.

Killing people because cartoons is not the worst tragedy regarding Islam. The worst tragedy is how controllable billions of Muslims are by simple offence.

If you are easily offended then you will be the worst at:
  • business
  • sports
  • education
  • competition
  • arts
  • life
The only "level" playing field a Muslim will not be offended in is one where there exists only other Muslims. This means Muslims necessarily have to be culturally insular and homogeneous.

Muslims killing over cartoons is just the tip of the iceberg. The iceberg is how easily it is to offend Muslims and thus control them and keep them down. Religion really blows chunks. Genetics, however, can play a part in self-esteem as I can attest too so all is not lost. It is going to take time, generations, to unwind all the oppression by offence these people have been brainwashed with.

The Muslim community then represents antithesis of what Irreni World Scale represents. The Muslim community represents insular, homogeneous culture of very limited free will and very limited emotional capability due to being emotionally manipulated by thin skin. That's a problem. That's a huge problem much greater than just cartoon killing for the world to handle because this problem impacts them all.

I bring this topic up to make a point: Irreni World Scale solutions empowers people by thickening their skin. Skin is thickened by embracing tribes of moral diversity and being exposed daily to morals not yours.  To whit, not only does Irreni World Scale solutions expand your free will but Irreni solutions also decreases your exposure to emotional manipulation, thickens your skin. Wonderful, eh? Power to the people!

Irreni Solutions VS Non-Scalable Solutions

Hi! Happy Sunday!

Two posts today!

Let us ponder for a second two non-scalable solutions recently in the news:

  • Parenting
  • Police body cameras

Parenting

Parenting became a rioting solution during the looting of Baltimore. Parenting became a looting solution when a mother was video taped disciplining her teenage son on camera. Everyone cheered, Huzza!

Immediately following was a viral video by a black women who suggested that the problem wasn't the police but rather the black parents who were not teaching their kids respect by "putting their foot so far up their kid's ass they choked on it."

So why is parenting a non-scalable solution to the police problem?

Where does a parent learn to be a good parent? From their parents, of course. Which is the scalable problem. You see, the black gal in the video saying the problem with blacks looting today is blacks parents themselves didn't take into account scale, the scale of multiple generations. Black families were deliberately and systemically broken asunder for hundreds of years. That is the culture. The problem with impoverished black families is systemic.

Why isn't Christianity the source of parenting morality for the black community? And even more telling is why white Christians aren't helping black Christians in this regard? Polling reveals that blacks are even more religious than whites in this country? The morality of Christianity can't even pierce skin color. The whites would rather condemn their fellow black Christians than help them. I find this disgusting. How often do we atheists get told religion is the source of morality? Christianity is the source of morality? One could never discern this when it comes to the poverty and family problems in the black community. One is forced to admit there is no less introspective and reflective group than Christians. Here is a Christian community, the black community, that could be embraced by other Christian communities with open arms and understanding as fellow Christians. Instead white community reaction to Baltimore was typical,  judgmental and full of condemnation of their fellow Christians. Christianity is one big failure as a source of morality, parenting or otherwise.

So, should parents be sticking their foot up kids asses to teach respect? When I was in UC Berkeley graduate school I learned a surprising statistic: 50% of all UC Berkeley graduate students were legacy students. Here I thought as a public school the graduate school would just be merit based. Ha! Smart parents do raise smart kids though. PhD parents raise PhD kids. How many parents in states like say Indiana where I grew up raise PhD kids? Even more important is how many PhD parents raising PhD kids do so by sticking their foot up their kids ass to teach them respect? Fear is a short-term game only. The long game involves opportunity and risk of losing that opportunity. If a child perceives they have no opportunities then fear is no longer an effective means of teaching. Fear becomes part of the game.

The scalable solution to poverty and criminal kids is opportunity. We know this. We've known this for generations now. And yet what gets national media attention and goes viral is the stick only, the stick without the carrot. Smack your kid.

So why is parenting a non-scalable solution to the police problem? It is not that parenting that is non-scalable, rather the notion that fear-only parenting is non-scalable, the notion that bad parenting goes back one generation is non-scalable.

Parenting is far more involved than just fear-disciplining your kid. You need to opportunity your kid and that is where low income and impoverished neighborhoods always come up short. That is why people who were exposed to opportunity as kids lose perspective condemning those who never had any. Have some humility people.

Police Body Cameras

In a previous post I wrote about the scalability of police cameras as a solution:
http://irreni.blogspot.com/2014/12/stop-in-name-of-law1-innovate-america.html

We, as a country, need to get beyond instant gratification, knee jerk reaction  fixing things. Imagine if you had a race with only one horse. It wouldn't matter how fast that horse ran, it wins! There is no competition! Maybe cameras will work but how will we know if different camera programs could work so much better with only one large government contract camera program in the race?

I bring up the police body cameras because last week Hillary Clinton came out stating she supports all police in the US wearing body cameras. What's missing in this assessment and our national introspection is any concept of scale that we in software, computing and Silicon Valley take for granted. You don't roll out a program on a large scale without innovation. You always throw out your first prototype. Rolling out police cameras at a national level without first experimenting at the local level and state level is the best way to ensure failure or if not outright failure then the worst possible results.

Irreni Solutions VS Bernie Sanders

Hi! Happy Sunday!

Hope you all are doing well!

We've already had a Bernie Sanders for President. His name was Jimmy Carter. A Lone Ranger cannot change Washington.

If on some off chance Bernie Sanders were elected to be President then he would suffer the same fate as Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter was a Washington outsider. Bernie Sanders is a Washington outsider in the sense that a.) he's a socialist and b.) he is party independent. Jimmy Carter was undermined by his own party. If Bernie Sanders were elected President then he will be undermined by the Democrats for the exact same reason: the politicians are beholden to big business first and foremost. But the impact was actually worse then the Democrats undermining Jimmy Carter. When Reagan was elected the Democrats voted across party lines more times than all of previous history combined. To whit, the Democrats were Republicans during the Reagan years.

Here is a question for you. Without the support of The House, The Senate or a political party just what will Bernie Sanders be able to do?

When Bill Clinton took office he was an outsider as well. It took Bill a couple of years to ingratiate himself with the insiders and he has been there ever since.

"The time for heroes is over, Malcolm Reynolds. Now is the time for business."
-Firefly, paraphrased

In some sense we Americans are too much the romantics from watching too many movies and too much television. Neither Bernie Sanders nor Elizabeth Warren can be lone heroes. Just ask yourself this: where are all the other Democrats? Why aren't all the other Democrats behind the populist messages being espoused in the media from either Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren? Where are Barbra Boxer and Diane Feinstein? Oh yeah, in the hip pockets of the corruption. Gender, it seems, has no bearing on corruptibility.

You cannot move the levers of power unless you have access to the levers of power. Neither Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders have access. They are total outsiders. If either one were to be elected President they would suffer Jimmy Carter's fate.

You cannot move the levers of power unless you have access to the levers of power. What this country needs is either a Franklin Roosevelt or a Lyndon Johnson. I'm not saying that because these guys were Democrats. I'm saying that because these guys both were power elite insiders of their respective days. When either of these Presidents wanted to make a change then they had the support of not just their parties but also the moneyed establishment.

Imagine if FDR or LBJ were elected to office today. Could either one pull off what they did in their respective times? No. Power, like everything else, has become distributed. There are far more millionaires and billionaires today. In the last century power lined up behind the political parties. No more. Now power distributes across the parties and now power no longer cares about the agenda of the political parties.

To whit, the American Presidency is a farce. Washington is a farce. Corruption has overrun representation and any semblance of representation of the people, by the people and for the people is over.

In the next election the best conversation one can have about American politics is not which party or candidate is better, but how they are all the same.

It is time to admit that lone voices like Bernie Sanders and Elisabeth Warren are alone because corruption in Washington has won. The sooner we admit this the sooner we can have meaningful conversation about what comes next: Irreni World Scale!
